See part 1 here.

Since designing the pattern for the “wallpaper” on the inside of my “submarine,” I have begun painting it in gouache. This process is rather longer and more arduous than I had planned, given my decision to make a pattern with lots of small curving bits. Additionally, I’m a little rusty with gouache and the paint is not as smooth or even as I had initially wanted. Still, I have grown to enjoy the slight variations in texture and opacity. (At the same time, I’d like to give myself some more gouache projects to practice making the surface really flat and perfect. )

The outside cover is metallic gold. When I am finished with the inside, I am going to cut/ paint a porthole.

I’ll talk about the pages of my submarine sketch book in part 3.
