CLOTHING AND FABRIC REPAIR WORKSHOP (with me and Liane Salgado)

Sunday June 26, 2-5pm at Vimala’s Curryblossom Cafe (in the Courtyard, 431 W Franklin Street, Chapel Hill)

We will discuss and teach techniques for making common repairs to clothing and linens. The purpose of building these skills is to keep what we have (in good/ workable condition) longer. By understanding more about how clothing is constructed, you will be able to mechanically troubleshoot it like any device. Knits and woven fabrics are different, but both can be repaired. We’ll also discuss techniques for re-purposing clothing, or “downgrading” it to a different function.

You will learn to:
• Darn a sock
• Repair a seam
• Repair a hem
• Do a basic zipper repair, and know when the zipper needs to be replaced
• Patch denim
• Hem pants
• Replace a button and an eye-hook
• Tighten or loosen a seam

We ask participants to reserve your space by emailing carrborogreenspace@gmail.com and to please bring things that need repairs. We will bring samples of each technique and can get you oriented on your own repairs. We’ll also provide a list of resources for sewing tools and materials.

Suggested donation: $30-40. Space is limited to 15 people.
